Taekwondo is a South Korean Martial art. The WT (World Taekwondo) is based in Seoul.
The name Taekwondo translates as 'the way of the foot and the fist'

There is a difference between the art side and the Sport side of Taekwondo.
The art side it focuses on combinations of combat techniques and self defence, also as all round fitness.
There is also a system of attacking & defending moves and stances all done in a sequence which forms what is termed as Poomsae.
These Poomsae are an important part of gradings, getting increasingly more complex as the belts get higher.
The sport side - it was a demonstration sport in the 1988 Olympics, and made its debut as an official sport in the 2000 Olympics. In 2020 it is will also be included in the Paralympics.
